Ryul

I’d waited over one thousand years for Elara. All those years, I’d worried that she had died, and that my magic had failed her.

When she’d walked into the courtyard and yelled out for me, I had been certain I was dreaming. Her mother’s beauty paired with her father’s confidence had turned Elara into a gorgeous woman.

I’d daydreamed about what she would look like, had pictured her when taking care of my needs. But my imagination could not compare to the real thing.

She was beauty personified.

During my time alone, training and intelligence recognizance had been my pastime. To be her guard, her mate, I had to be as perfect as possible. I had to ensure that I did not fail her, as her parents had been failed.

Had I known she would encounter and round up the four warlords, I might have gone to her first. They weren’t bad men, but I had envisioned Elara and I being together, alone. Now, I had four other men to compete with for her time.

My protective instincts were gone when around the warlords now that they had all taken their oaths. It helped me sleep easier knowing that they would not harm her.

I could see she already cared for them and them for her. I knew she cared for me, which was all I needed.

She didn’t understand the connection she and I shared. Part of her was still buried, forgotten, and I was worried how she would react when it finally freed itself.

Her magic was powerful, more powerful than it should have been with her bloodline. Her mother had chosen her father to help dilute the magic, but Elara was even more powerful than her mother had been.

I would need to train her extensively, quickly, and ensure she did not destroy us.

Had she known when she was a child about her powers, she could have easily destroyed the men who had kept her as a slave.

My teeth ground together, and a snarl ripped from my throat at the thought of them. Enslaving someone was horrid, but enslaving a child was inexcusable. The warlords had jurisdiction over his punishment, which irked me. I wanted to destroy him, hurt him ten times for every time he had hurt her.

The fact he had scarred her, a Seelie fae, meant he had used a whip laced with magic, or he had whipped her so many times, that it permanently scarred her.

I wanted to kiss every inch of her, to praise her as a goddess, and to show her that her scars mattered not to me. I would worship her for the rest of my days. I would do anything for her.

Even putting up with the warlords.
